Hiccups can be annoying and even unhealthy. Here are some tried-and-true home remedies to stop hiccups. Drink a glass of water or juice fast. Gargling water can also help. Try to breathe slowly into a paper bag. This will increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream and the body will become preoccupied with the release of it and forget about the hiccups. In case the bag is not available, place a cup around the nose and mouth and continue to breathe normally. Tilt your head back in, hold your breath and count to ten and exhale immediately thereafter.
