One gram of carbohydrates contains nine calories, and bananas are fairly high in carbs. However, you may be glad to hear that you can still carry on eating them and experiencing the great benefits they have to offer.

But you must ensure to eat them in moderation.

Going over the top and consuming bananas like a crazed monkey will lead to weight gain - this rule can be applied to many foods!


How Bananas Could Make You Gain Weight


Losing weight involves being in a caloric deficit. You need to be burning more calories than you’re consuming, and this can be done by finding out your maintenance calories and eating around 300-500 calories below it.

Over time, you may plateau, and you’ll need to decrease the calories by a further 100-200 at a time. Or, you could do more cardio to burn those calories.

One small banana contains around 90 calories and a large one is approximately 120 calories. So in order to break through a weight loss plateau, it may require you to remove a single banana from your diet.

At the same time, eating that one extra banana could put you over and cause you to remain stuck in your weight – or even gain it if they make you go above your maintenance calories. Again, however, this same principle can be applied to many foods.


Bananas Shouldn’t Be Singled Out As Bad Food


If you’re tracking your daily caloric intake and keeping your banana consumption moderate, there should be no reason why you would gain weight.

So, that may come as a relief to some of you! Eating bananas won’t automatically cause you to gain weight, but it can become a major factor depending on the state of the rest of your diet.
