How To Get Rid Of Eye Bags Fast

There is nothing that can make you look out of sorts or aged, more than having bags under your eyes. Bags under your eyes is the term that people use for the puffiness that you get under the eyes. There are some who only get them after a long night of no sleep, while some experience them on a chronic basis. Eye bags are more common in older people. As you age, the skin under the eyes weakens, and the fat that used to accompany the space just below the eye can move into the lower part of the eyelid. That gives the appearance of "puffiness” or bags.

There are some plastic surgical procedures that can be very effective for bags under the eyes, but before you decide to go under the knife, you can get rid of eye bags with some natural cures. To relieve the puffy look try these natural at home cures.

1. Get enough sleep

When you don’t get enough sleep, your body gets tired, literally. That includes the muscles in your body and your face. When you don’t sleep enough, it shows in your face too. The old wives tale, about needing your beauty sleep, may have some merit. Sleeping a minimum of 6 hours a day will ensure that your body functions optimally. That means that your muscles will have enough energy, and your circulation will increase.

2. Tea bags

If you want to get rid of those puffy eye bags, try some cold, wet tea bags. Tea has antioxidant properties that will help to flush any toxins causing inflammation around the eyes while the cold, wet feel of the tea bags will help to alleviate any puffiness that you are experiencing. It won’t cure them long-term, but it is an excellent way to get the puffiness gone immediately. Keep some cold green tea bags in the refrigerator for a quick pick me up when needed.

3. Cucumber

Cucumber is a great way to help with any fluid build up around the eye. A known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, cut some cucumber slices and place them under the eye. Lie down on your back and allow them to sit for 15-20 minutes. They will draw out any fluid retention, and the cold will relax the muscles and help to take away the “puffy” look.

4. Exercise

There is nothing that can get the blood circulating better than exercise. When you exercise, you get the blood pumping that helps to get rid of inflammation and to flush toxins and any water retention. That helps even in the face. If you want to get rid of those eye bags, get up and get moving. Exercising for just 10 minutes can help to flush some of the build-up around your eyes and have you looking bright-eyed again.

5. Spoons

Spoons are an excellent cool apparatus for the eyes. Due to the sensitive nature of the skin under the eye, ice is too cold and can damage the skin. Using cold metal spoons, like little ice packs, is a great way to get rid of the puffiness that can accumulate under the eye and make you look older. Dip some spoons in some cold water, lie down and allow them to sit on the underside of your eyes for about 5-10 minutes. It is a quick fix for that tired look.

6. Take a cold shower

You can either hop in a cold shower or just splash some cold water on your face. The cold water will help the skin to firm up and do away with those bags under your eyes. It is a great way to reduce swelling and a great substitute for ice.

7. Egg whites

Egg whites may seem like a silly cure, but they work by tightening the skin around the eye. Eye bags are caused by lax muscles under the eye. By tightening the skin, you can do away with the appearance of bags. It is also a great way to take care of crows feet and other fine lines and wrinkles.

8. Potatoes

Potatoes have anti-inflammatory properties that will help to take away the puffiness under the eyes. Use potatoes the way that you do cucumber slices right below the eyes. Simply cut up a couple of slices and allow them to sit. If you want greater benefit, you can chop up some potatoes and apply them to the eyes in a cheese cloth. That way you are getting more of the starch that helps to firm and tighten the skin. Mix with cold water to enhance the anti-inflammation process.

9. Massage

Eye bags are due to poor circulation under the eyes and a weakening of the skin's ability to flush the toxins and built-up fluid. Lightly massaging the area is a great way to improve circulation and get the blood pumping to flush away any water that is pocketing. Make sure to rub lightly, you don’t want to damage the sensitive skin, or you can have the reverse effect. A gentle massage twice daily just to get the blood and oxygen flowing is an excellent way to keep eye bags gone.

10. Hydration

When you are dehydrated, the body has a hard time flushing toxins and water from the skin. To maintain excellent looking skin, including the skin under the eyes, make sure to get enough fluids throughout the day. If you aren’t drinking enough water, the first sign is going to be in poor skin texture and appearance. Drink a minimum of 6 to 8 8 ounce glasses of water a day. Compensate for extreme temperatures or excessive sweating by upping your intake.

11. Salt water

Salt packs will do a great job at absorbing the moisture that can build-up under the eyes. Dissolve a tablespoon of sea salt in a cup of water and then saturate a cloth with the mixture. Use a ziploc bag to place the cloth into the refrigerator. When you need a quick fix, take it out and allow it to sit on the eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. Absorbing any water retention from the eyes, it can make the eye bags much less pronounced.
